hello all i was wondering on an auto tranny (89 2wd camry) W/ 275,xxx miles on it i was thinking of a engine swap later and was going with the stock rebuild and i see ALOT of trannys for sale on craigs list what will fit in my car year wise without to many probs or should i go with stock rebuild unit?
The ones on craigslist are from 90 to 2000 and some have good milage on them will the later ones work ? thanks |
There may be a sticker on the side of the drivers door having the trans model number.
Something like A140L, A140E, A540H, A540E. Does the current trans have an odometer cable (mechanical odometer) or a speed sensor (electrical). If an electrical odometer Toyota changed the trans design from having 2 speed sensors to 1 sometime in the early 90's. If replacing a trans having 2 sensors with one having 1 sensor a trouble code may result as the computer is looking for 2 sensors. Might check with trans rebuilt companies as to what trans years can be used for your year of car. Also ask at the Toyotanation website. |
