89 Camry oil leak

Just bought a 89 camry yesterday. I drove it 70 miles home and it leaked around 1/2 qt of motor oil on the trip. Looks to be leaking on the passenger side of the motor. It has to be a seal or seals. What seals are on the side? Crankshaft seal? Camshaft seal? is the main seal there to? First toyota I have owned so this is new to me. Any suggestions??

If a 4 cylinder would have cam, crank and oil pump. The oil pump is also powered by the timing belt.

If oil pump seal it will only leak when the engine is running as the seal would be under oil pressure. You can remove the passengers side tire, start engine and watch for oil to start dripping from timing cover area.

This area would be on the side closest to the firewall, about 1/3 of the way up on the cover. You need to look up under the wheel well to see it.

The Autozone website at www.autozone.com would have info on this engine and how the parts and seals are arranged.

The cam and crank seal can also leak but not as bad as they are not under pressure when the engine is running.

If a V6 the oil pump seal is turned by the crank directly. The seal could leak but it would be from behind the crank pulley area.
