95 Camry Stereo question
 

I have a 95 Camry LE with the factory radio cassette player (anti theft). I want to be able to play CD's in my car but would be nice if I didnt have to change the deck. Does anyone know if it is possible to install a CD changer that connects directly into the deck. Were these stereo systems made with those inputs back then?? If it is possible, what brand changers would be compatible?? Thanks so much! Jase

In the transition phase from tape to CDs several manfacturers made a tape to CD player adapter that plugged into the tape slot in the radio. The portable CD player would sit on the center consol or passenger seat. You could onlyload one at a time and to change Cds was a pain, especially when driving. I don't know if they're made any more but BestBuy may have one. I have one made by Sony that we may be able work out a deal on if you're that keen on keeping the original player.Personally Iwould just buy an up to date CD/radio with a plug-in to play iPod/MP3. I also have a CD/Radio that I took out of my Camry to installthe better one I took out of the Cressida the Camry replaced. We could work something out on that as well if you want. It has a Camry wiring harness.

I don't know if you don't want to change the deck for economic, tech skills, or other reasons. If the economic or tech reasons are the problem I can asure you that this is the easiest car I have ever changed a deck on. I purchased a Kenwood deck from Crutchfield for $121 including install kit with wiring adapter and next day shipping. My 16 yr old daughter and I did the change in about 1 hour with a couple screwdrivers, crimpers, and some pig-tail connectors. I did solder each connection before crimping. She learned something in the process and we had fun. Of course this is not power house system. It does sound as good as the OEM and makes her happy.

The main reason I dont want to change the factory deck is because I must park the car outside in an unlit area, and I share the vehicle with my dad. He tends to be careless at times, and I know that if I install an aftermarket unit, it will be stolen within days. It happens a lot in our area. The aftermarket units are just so attractive and in high demand. If i could buy a changer and mount it in lets say.. the trunk, it would be ideal because by looking inside the vehicle there would be nothing to peak the interest of a potential theif. I just dont know if the unit has an input for a changer.
