Default 96 camry 2.2 , running rough

my camry is still running rough after a new flex pipe on the exhaust , new plugs and wires and new rotor and dist. cap and a new air filter , it also has new belts and oil and filter change , the engine light is on and I tried the jumper wire trick to read the code te1 to e1 , the engine light never blinked . it acts like one cylinder misses out randomly at idle and driving , when driving and it starts to do it , I let off the gas a bit and it goes smooth , I was told today that the coil could be going bad , im tired of throwing parts at it , but I have to be close to the problem .

The 96 requires a code reader to tap into the ODBII system. Get the codes read out then post back.
