Default 96 Camry LE 4 cyl 5FSE engine won't start

Help! I had to change out the engine on my camry 96 LE 4 cyl, due to a big hole in the block. My college student long story. Purchase a salvaged engine and switched the oil pump to accomodate the crank sensor. Engine turns but no fire from plugs or distributor. Took out the engine again and stripped it all the way to the block to determine if there were any other differences - I found none. Made sure the timing was correct and on the compression stroke, tried another igniter, new crank sensor and still no fire! I'm almost ready to shoot the thing!

as stupid as it sounds with the engine installed make sure the crank sensor wire is not pinched under the altenator causing it to ground this would cause your problem. not sure its the issue but, i've seen it a couple of times
