97 Camry FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR Location

Hello,
Can anyone tell me where the FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR is located on my 1997 Camry? I keep getting the CEL and code PO450 and thought I would try changing it, but cannot see it on my fuel rail or the firewall. Is it underneath by the fuel tank?
Thanks, Jeff

4 cylinder?

If not screwed onto the fuel rail it was moved to the fuel pump.

Remove the lower rear seat cushion by pulling up from the front. Once removed you should see a oval place behind the drivers seat. Removing the plate will allow access to the top of the fuel tank where the pump/fuel gauge sensor top plate cover is located.

You will see the fuel line and a few wires running to this area.

The fuel pump and gauge sensor are attached to the top plate cover and once the cover is unbolted will come out as a unit.

NOTE........

Code P0450 is related to the fuel tank evaporation system (EVAP). The EVAP system manages gasoline evaporation (emissions) from the gas tank. These emissions are no longer vented to air but routed into a canister for storage until burned in the engine.

The system has a pressure sensor connected to the cars computer. This code is for a malfunction in the vapor pressure sensor.

Issues could be open or short in the wiring to this pressure sensor, the sensor, fuel tank overflow valve issues or the computer.

The engine fuel pressure system for the engine is not monitored by the computer. This includes the fuel pressure regulator.

A google search on this code will turn up some info.

Note: For Camry models later then 1999, the EVAP system changed and in 2002 may have changed again. Thus Code 0450 for later model Camry may refer to another part in the EVAP system.

So where is the vapor pressure sensor located on a 1997 4 cylinder 5SFE?

Most likely under the chassis in front of the gas tank. If located here, you will be able to access it from under the car. Toyota moved the EVAP unit from the engine compartment to this location.

Under the 3.0L, 1MZ-FE engine section click on Fuel/Air, then Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor.

Click on the small photo to enlarge.

This part may be located near a plastic canister having small vacuum hoses and a few wires.
