'97 hard to start when it's cold

Hey everyone, I've got a '97 camry 2.2 5sfe, which I handed down to my son a few years back...last week he was driving it when the water pump seized, shredding the timing belt and blew a head gasket. Dad to the rescue, I surfaced the head replaced gaskets,plugs,wires...etc. I get it back together and now I'm having starting problems. If I crank it over for 15-20 seconds and feather the throttle, it barely runs, until it warms up to running temp. Once its warm, starts right up and runs like a champ (I still haven't driven it, it's on jackstands til I figure this out) 1st thought it was timing...not it, then vacuum leak...found 2 hoses, replaced 'em..not it! Can somebody offer me some insight, I'm baffled. Thanks, Scott

Might check over the IAC valve, it's electrical connections and coolant plumbing. The valve is responsible for metering bypass engine intake air around the throttle plate.

The valve response to signals from the engine computer and coolant temp.

Make sure the hose to the MAP sensor is OK and connected to the right port.

yep, most of the time it's the IAC... problem like that starts on the IAC.
