Default 2000 Toyota Camry Tranny slipping whiles driving.

Hi all,

When driving along at lets say 60 mph , mph gauge drops to zero and when I press the accelerator the transmission slips at times. The mph gauge will some time freak out and then go back to zero. Even when first starting the car, sometimes the transmission wont slip but mph gauge will still read zero when moving. What can be the cause of this and how can I rectify it?

Thanks
David M

MPH dial going back to zero
may be a faulty speed sensor.. that can be replaced

when transmission slips ....the engine revs should increase and car not go any where

manual gearbox slippage
check hydraulic fluid in clutch master or leaking salve cyl or worn clutch

automatic slippage
check fluid level color and smell
faulty solenoids or worn torque converter

Thanks.
I should have noted that it was a automatic transmission V6. It is weird. Car will sometimes drive fine and tranny will not slip when mph gauge is on 0. The slipping is synonymous when the mph gauge hits 0 sometimes.

Is there a DIY thread to replace the VSS?

Thanks

might be something on youtube

the speed sensor is on the gearbox
