98 Toyota Camry

Last week my keys were shipped to someone on accident at my job, I work at FedEx.that was my only key.so a friend volunteered to help me try to hotwire it. I stayed in his vehicle while he tried to get it.well he said he had to go charge his battery to his drill and we would try again the next day but I got a mechanic to go back with me and he said the dude drilled into the magnet and I would have to buy the ignition switch so I did and we replaced it and it won't start now.so could it be the theft deterrent system cutting the fuel off or something

You lost your keys, yes?

Did the ign key have a built-in transponder? The key handle will be thicker then a normal key to hold the transponder.

Does the car have something called an "immobilizer" to work with the transponder key? Look for red LED light on dash. Don't think you can hot wire a car with an immobilizer.

Where was the drilled hole in the ign key. The "magnet" if equipped, is located around the ign key barrel (part the rotates with key.

The immobilizer turns off the ign only. Check for ign spark when cranking the engine.

If the car has an immobilizer you will need a coded key to start engine (when ign key fixed).

If you lost your immobilizer master keys you will need to have a new key made then the cars computer programmed to accept the key. This is a dealer, well equipped local locksmith or ship it someone who specializes in this repair fix.

Post back with answers to the above questions.
