Yes unusual and for a car so new.

Sometimes a failed compressor can spew debris into the A/C system requiring flushing and or replacing of other components.

Suggest if not being done to have the A/C system tested for leaks. A slow leak causing low Freon which can put stress on the compressor leading to failure.

If you have a detailed invoice check what the shop might have done besides replace the compressor to drive up the cost..
