bearing noise

2012, 2.5, been having strange noises behind dash-was thinking airducks or along firewall. Noises go all the way across, not fixed on one spot. While inspecting this, I noticed a bearing noise on lower left side. Watched videos on youtube, showed 2011+ camrys have waterpump problems but this was a v-6, mine is a inline 4. 68000 miles. If it is a waterpump bearing-does it need immediate replacement or do I have some time. No heating issues yet.

Typically there is a good deal of time between water pump bearing noise and catastrophic failure. How loud is the noise?

If you can, use a section of rubber hose or such as a stethoscope to locate the noise. Check all components powered by the belt such as the alternator and the idler bearing.

Grab hold of the water pump pulley and check for play. Look under the water pump where the drive shaft comes out for signs of coolant. There may also be a hole under the bearing area where coolant may come out if the bearing seal was failing.

If you think its the pump, keep an eye on the pump and coolant level. Recheck for coolant leakage and pulley play. If a bearing it will get worse with mileage. The noise may increase with wear.

Make an appointment with a shop or order parts for DIY.
