Default Camry 02 Gas Pedel

I have an 02 Camry, it starts and idles, but does not have any peddle action
to the throttle body. The dealers, say that the sensor is only available as an
assembly of the peddle and sensor costing $700.00. Where can I get a new sensor, without having to buy the assembly. The part No I got from a supplier is APS146, but no body is making it yet. My car is a Japanese made
Camry 3.0 litre engine. At the price they want, it is insane, when you live on a fixed income.

This problem does come up. Your car must have an electronic throttle system that controls the throttle rather then a steel cable. The pedal sensor controls a motor installed on the throttle.

Yes this is insane but the change most likely was made to reduce engine emissions by getting the drivers foot out of the loop.

You might check with auto salvage yards, this car has been around long enough that they are being totaled in accidents. A salvage may be able to use their computer system to locate a part at another junk yard and have it shipped to you.

If stuck buying a new part there are a couple of very good Toyota dealers that sell genuine parts online at $$ discounts. These are below:

From alldata.com this part has been in use since 1996 - 2003, has any body had the same problem with cars from these other years.

Camry changed over to the system around 2002. Other auto and truck manufacturers use a similar system.

An internet search will turn up hits on owners experiencing problems with the pedal sensor or motor that drives the throttle.

Default Fixed

This malfunction of the gas peddle sensor was an issue that has been resolved by me and a good Friend Mechanic. The unit was removed from the car and opened, washing the module with a radio cleaner solvent and then replaced. This unit is a variable resistor and uses a finger contact. The contacts had become corroded from road salt, used in the winter. Vapor's
come off the carpet and attacked the module. You could smell the dampness
within the car. Once the sensor was cleaned the sensor continues to work.
The use of this type of sensor, where road salt contemeints may cause failure could be a dangerous situation
