Camry general maintenance
 

We are considering purchasing a used Camry, probably around 2014 area. As I have never owned or worked on Toyotas, I would like to know what level of difficulty is involved in general maintenance such as:

Oil changes
Fuel filter/air filter changes
Brakes
Starter
Alternator
Belts
Coolant Hoses

Does Toyota publish ALL their diagnostic codes?

Can I get complete service manuals somewhere?

I would be particularly interested in hearing about any specific maintenance headaches I might find.

The car is straight forward for your list of items. Aftermarket parts are readily available.

There are generic ODBII codes which a normal scanner will read out. Then enhanced codes requiring enhanced software.

Third parties sell it via incorporated into a scanner, or for use on a computer, Android, etc. See links below for examples.

Toyota apparently no longer sells service manuals to the public. If available they would be on CD. Search Ebay for apparent boot legged CD copies. Haynes has a basic manual good enough for your listed repairs.

Toyota has an online pay site to allow access to service manual info at a reasonable per day rate. Download is unlimited.

AllData.com appears to now have reasonable per car yearly rate for service info. AllData is extensive but is not factory information and in some areas lacking. The site would also have Technical Service Bulletins.

You can check for service done by Toyota by having inputting the VIN at WWW.Toyota.com.

For owner complaints/questions review posts at the Toyotanation.com website listed in the appropriate forum.

Suggest changing the trans fluid at around 50K. Rather than assume it is "lifetime."

Changing spark plugs on a v6 is challenging. The front bank is pretty straight forward but the rear bank requires removal of several parts.
