Car stays in the Run or ACC positionr regardless of key position

Hello Forum, I'm having a hard time tracking down the problem with my 2001 Toyota being stuck in the "Run" or "ACC" position when I take the key out the ignition. My mechanic mentioned that there is a short in the ABS module that is causing my issue, have any of you ever heard of this before? To give a little more details...Ever since last week whenever I take my key out of the ignition the lights stay on as if the car is still in the run position, the running lights, dash lights still stay on regardless if I take the key out or not so I have to remove the battery cable every time I turn off the car.

Also, when I do drive it the shift points seem a little off as well but I do not have problems turn the car engine off and on...the car never completely turns off from the ACC position which kills my battery.

Any ideas?

Is the ign switch working correctly?

Check taillight relay for sticking.

My mechanic mentioned the ignition switch is working fine, but like you my first thoughts are it's ignition related. As far as turning the key, I don't have any wiggle or play nor does the key get stuck it's just not turning off the electronics when I take the key out. My mechanic believes the ABS module is causing the issue...which is an oddity because I can't find any post anywhere that causes this symptom. I'm going to check the taillight relay hopefully that it the issue.

The running and dash lights are powered in part by the taillight relay.

What else does not turn off with the ign switch off?
