Check Engine Light

Guys,
I have recently repaired my car due to a check engine light. I had some sensors replaced and the light now is off.
My question is: Should the light be ON when I turn the switch on? I mean, it used to be on for a while until the engine starts, now it doesn't even light when I turn on the switch. I'm afraid that it was cut-off power or just totally improperly disabled.
Any ideas?

The light should turn on when the ign key is on. The once the engine is running should go off within a small number of seconds.

If the light is not coming on at all with ign switch on there is a problem.

If the car is 1996 or older, many autoparts stores will read any codes for free. If the light was disabled, the trouble code portion may still work. The code reader may indicate the system is still working OK, there is a problem, there is a code, no codes, etc.

Suggest taking the car back to the shop and asking about this.
