cv shaft

I have a 99 Camry v6 manufacture in the US. I was getting ready to replace the cv shaft on both sides and Napa ask me was it bolt on or plug in, I wasn't sure when I look under the car. Thanks in advance!

Bolt on was used many years ago, say before 91.

For bolt on, there are short flanged axle sections coming out of the diff. The longer section of each axle going to the knuckle bolts onto this flange. To remove the axle it needs to be unbolted from the flange.

For plug in, the inner CV joint body incorporates a splined shaft that slides into the diff.

Look at the inner CV joint area. If flanged, you will see the flange and bolts.

If slide in, you will only see the inner CV body fully up against the diff housing.
