Engine noise
Hi All,
I just got this 2005 Camry SE 4 Cyl. I just sold my 2000 BMW (6 cyl 5 speed manual). Now I have a heavy right foot :) Now while accelerating, is it normal for a 4 cyl Camry to make noise / a light whistling noise from the engine or am I just being skeptical? Please let me know. |
Might check for a damaged or split engine air intake hose. A large diameter tube going to the throttle body.
and listen for hissing from damaged vacuum lines on the engine. |
yeah, bimmer to Camry and a led foot? that's some change... from pure breed to a mule..
man, you need to be more specific. what kind of noise? like toyo said, whistle - if it's whistle - can be from loose air duct somewhere. but noise? get yourself a piece of garden hose, about 3 feet long, and use it as stethoscope. pop hood open, have someone to step on gas pedal and hold, and scope for those noises. bad bearing may whistle just as well. I am yet to see a car that does not make at least some noise from alternator bearing... |
oh, and for starters - change oil. BAD NOISES where fixed with that.
|
Bimmer to Camry is a drastic change I know. I ride a motorcycle as well - a Yamaha FZ6R. So I still have the thrill factor saved up.
Oil change just done. Got it checked my the mechanic yest and he said no vacuum/intake leaks. Everything looks fine. He said one of the belts/chains might be tight causing the whistling. Any ideas now? |
The timing chain can whine.

yeah, bike will do it..
like i said - make yourself cheap man stethoscope and listen to it. btw, if it does not make those noises when not moving, then you have some sort of air flow or road caused noises. plastic bag stuck on undecarriage can do a lot of surprise noise. honest suggestion, man - pin point it. and how many belts do you have on that engine? I have 07 2.5L, and it's one belt. |
Problem solved
The damn noise was coming from cracked serpentine belt and extremely hard tensioner. Got them replaced yesterday and now it sounds like a Camry should - quiet and smooth.... Thanks for the input guys!

cool! not sure what "extremely hard" tensioner ease, but hey - it's fixed!
