Forward & backward front axle play both wheels 00 Camry

Started hearing a clunk when I hit the brakes. Both front wheels have play when I put a lug wrench on each wheels moving back and forth. I have driving a few hundred miles with spare wheel in front 3 months ago, nothing crazy it wasn't too much smaller in diameter so I hope it's nothing with the differential?

Some rotational movement is normal. Check the brake pads for movement in their carrier.

A Mechanic said it was ball joints.

Found out what's causing all the movement and clunking it's now effected steering a little. Hoping that nut is only loose.. I've hit a few nasty dips with airtime twice.

Anyone know if that control arm can pop out once the bushing is gone or will I be fine? Driving until my guy can fix it. Just got lots of sway and bald tires!

The joint should be designed to remain intact for a time for safety reasons but it needs fixing. Too much banging around may break it. If it breaks it may be a catastrophic failure and loss of control of the car.

Suggest you stop driving until fixed.

My good friend I would also like to add my experience with bad front bearings . While my 1500 was even under warranty there was a vibration on the steering wheel even on a straight line no matter the speed . The vibration was noticeable between 1500-2200 rpm. Long story short after numerous back and forth with few dealerships and misdiagnosis even came to the point that the dealership told me “ what you expect your truck is not new “ that was at 50.000km , one dealership decided to actually look in too it and they replaced the front bearings. Problem went away on the spot! Just like to share with you as there might be another reason too.
