front quarter whirring sound

2007 Camry LE. 119,00 miles. CV on right side. Front passenger side whirring noise that is barely audible at 15-20 MPH becomes most pronounced in 50 MPH and above range. Changes in pitch on a continuum--but are really clear when accelerating/decelerating in 50-40 MPH area (but still the whole pitch is on a continuum depending on vehicle velocity). No changes in pitch if auto transmission is tested by manually moved through gears 3 and 2, from D.

Appears totally dependent on front right wheel RPM. Tires recently rotated back to front--no change in sound.

Sound emanates from front right, but seems almost center-center right rather than edge right.

No out of ordinary vibration, or rattling sensation. It's 'whirring.' Does this sound like a CV axle assembly, or is it more likely carrier or pinion bearings at front differential? Thanks.

Are you stating the noise is different if the trans is manually shifted?

The right axle has an axle carrier bearing in-board of the CV joint. If you are up to it, find this bearing. After the noise is experienced for a time, find the bearing and check its temp by hand. Should not be hot.

Would be unusual if an differential problem unless lack of trans fluid.
