Frustrated with P0031 code!
The car has had the CEL on since i got it with 13k miles and it now has 23k. It is a 2003 camry le with the 2.4 2AZ-FE.
The code is P0031:
1. Open or short circuit condition
2. Poor electrical connection
3.failed oxygen sensor
4. EFI relay fault
Thinking it was the o2 sensor (bank1 sensor 1 on the manifold) i changed it out with the part number:
DENSO 234-9041
When cold the check engine light comes on in only about 15 seconds, but if the battery is reset when the car is warmed up it will drive for about 15-20 miles before it comes back on making me think its a problem with the heater circuit. Need to get this straightened out as i need to pass inspection. Has anyone else had this issue? and what did you do to fix it?
Feel like it could be so many things, wiring issue, bad relay or even the ECU.

The car only has 23000 miles?
Look under the hood for a sticker stating if the car was built to California or Federal emissions standards.
You changed the first sensor on the exhaust system?
As a quick check.
With ign key on check the following:
12v power between sensor plug black wire and chassis ground. This power comes from the EFI relay.
If not OK check wiring.
----------------------------------------------
3.3v between orange wire and brown wires.
3.0v between white and brown wires.
With engine at idle voltage should be below 3.0v between black/red wire and chassis ground.
These voltages are from the engine computer. If not OK may need to check these outputs at the engine computer in case of wiring problems.

P0031 code
Yes. bank 1 Senor 1, Denso senor 234-9041 from Napa auto parts but it was the wrong senors ! I went to the deal and with me vin # I found out my -03 camry is a 50 state emmisions! So they also sales senors made by Denso with different numbers on them so I cross reference those #'s with napa's and got the Denso 234-9010 now my car is fix ! I should of just gotton senor from dealer !

New manifold unit.
Hello ! Im replacing my manifold unit on my 2003 camry 4cyl. 2.4L; I'm having a problem loosening the two nuts on the exhaust pipe flange! Is there a special tool I need or do I need a brake bar longer than 24 inches?

Try hosing them down with PB Blaster and let it sit overnight. You can also try heating them up with a torch or running the car for a bit, just don't burn yourself! If they are really rusty, you might have to grind them off and get new bolts/nuts.
