i recently bought a 2002 camry xle w/ 92k miles on it. today the car would not start, the overhead light inside the cabin was very dim. i called aaa and they said bad battery w/ low amps. got a new batt and the car was ok while in the driveway. now when i drive it around with the engine still cool, the car cannot hold idle speed. the rpm drops to below 100 and the car slightly shakes and stutters. it has a difficult time starting. will turn over no problem but will not turn over. my guess is the alternator is bad but could it be something else?

i had before a 94 camry v4 that had a similar problem whenever the car was in motion or idling the car would stall out. that time it was a puzzle and turned out to be the idle speed control valve. i'm not up on cars really, but all this trouble is building a bit of a database! thanks ahead of time.

otherwise, 2002 camry is great! i really, really like it. just not the idle thing!
