How do I test the Fuel Pump, fuel pressure, etc
Hi - I thnk I have an issue with my fuel system. Is there an easy way to test the fuel pump or the full pressure or the fuel filter for that matter. My camry is a 1995 with 285K miles and all fuel system parts are original. Lately I have been having a problem with the engine cutting out and coming back on while driving and sometimes it is hard to start.
I have tested the ignition spark and timing - both look good. Thanks Kev |
The pressure gauge fitting installs on top of the current banjo fitting on the exit side of the filter can using a longer banjo bolt. There should be kits available for this.

Do I need to disconnect the fuel pump when I am removing the fuel filter lines to hook up the gauge? Thanks Kev |
No. The pump only runs when the engine is starting or running.
This is the can filter inside the engine compartment. The banjo fitting on top of the can. Take note the system will be under pressure even with engine off. Have something to catch the fuel and a number of rags. Best to use a tube wrench for the fitting. Basically a box wrench with a slot to slip over the tube. The fitting can be extremely tight!!! Make sure to also hold the filter with a wrench to prevent twisting of the fuel line. |
