LED Bulb Replacement problems
 

Here's the deal, I've got an 05 Camry. I know the book says 2825 bulbs or 168s for the marker and license plate lights. The only difference between those and the 194 bulb is the wattage. So I replaced the license plate lights and marker lights with 194 LED white lights and they keep going out pretty quick. LEDs should last longer etc, has anyone else came accross this problem? Or does anyone know of any LED replacements out there that have worked and don't go out every few months....Let me know. Thanks.

Heat can cause these bulbs to fail.

I've been talking to some people and reps from piaa. Hopefully I will have some sort of resolution and I'll post an update. If it is heat that is doing it, My question is what would be causing it. LEDs are supposed to draw less resistance and therefore produce less heat. One person that I talked to has a ton of experience with VWs and he's saying that some VWs have this problem as well as a problem with the indicator on the dash coming on when bulbs are switched to LEDs. The indicator problem is an easy fix. Add a resistor, or buy LEDs that have resistors built in. He's checking to see if anyone has a cure for the bulbs burning out so fast.... Thanks for the tip though, its another avenue to look into.

Are you adding an LED built as a replacement for the original bulb or just adding an LED?

As you have found out, an LED operates at a much lower voltage. If your just adding an LED you will need to add a resistor in series to lower the voltage.

Some LED are offered as replacements for bulbs and should have the resistor installed.

Heat, as in the heat of the LED enclosure not the LED itself.
