Oil Change for 2k10
#3
regular oil? OEM says to use 0W-20. there is no dino or non-syn oil that falls into that weight spec. a friend says to use amsoil 5w-30 or whatever. except amsoil is $8/quart while the dealer 0w-20 is $6. this is not a case of use what you feel like cuz it has never failed me before. thats because 0w-20 is a fairly new development. no one has any history of using it to get any data. so you mobil 1 0w-20, not 0w-30 or 5w-20 or 5w-30.

Thank you all for reply.
oil : mobil 1 0w-20
filter : factory filter, purolator pure 1, Napa Gold
This will run me about $40 for each oil change
should I do for every 3K miles or 7K miles?
I need the tool for replace oil filter. Do you know what it called? This is what I get online "cup-type filter wrench with at least a 3-inch extension on your ratchet"

Oil Change for 2k10
Every day, I dont want it to get stale.
I use Amsoil synthetic and change my oil between 8-10k = mostly highway driving, with some city/twisties in-between. When using DINO oils, I changed it around 4-5k max. Use a quality filter/oil and your bike will thank you for many years.
P.S. All oils are not created equal

my engine clicks for a few minutes when cold. lifter clatter till it warms up slightly? wonder what it would sound like with 5w-20? seems quiet when warm. i tend to believe 5w-20 would be ok since 99% of motor running is warm/hot. 5w-20 is available as a dino oil. save a few $$.

I use regular oil in my car and passed cars with no issues. I think synthetic oil would be more beneficial for super high performance engines or cars with turbochargers.

Use the oil weight and type specified in the manual for the temp range where you live. If that means you have to use synthetic then you should give that signifigant consideration. As for how long to go between changes consider your normal driving. If your normal driving is about equal combination city speeds and highway speeds (based on time, not miles) I would not go any further than 5000 miles. If most of you time is spent at highway speeds 7500 miles might be ok. The oil will not break down in that time but you will get a lot of dirt, carbon, etc in the oil. I change every 3000 miles with a 25/75 mix of syn and dino. This will reduce your costs some and give you the advantages of synthetic oil. I started this to stop clicking valves on cold mornings at start up and decided that if it stopped the clicking it had to be good for the rest of the engine. Good filters have been mentioned previously. I use the NAPA Gold made by WIX.
