buy one that looks like a three prong spider. best wrenches ever. cap style ones ain't worth a flip. they slide and spread.

something like this:
OTC 4568 3-Prong Self-Adjusting Oil Filter Remover, 2-5/8" to 4-7/8"

wrench

this is the cranker, got the three prong wrench, its to hard to get on my 2002 camry
v6. a person needs two hands to get it to stay on the oil filter. i wouldn't recommend
for my year and engine

actually, no. I know exactly what you talk about. I can tighten that wrench on a filter with same hand that holds the wrench. takes some finesse in how you apply the wrench. can't help, have done it many times before on all kinds of cars.
also, proper body positioning underneath the car plays major role here.
no disrespect - I have a living example working with me. mt resident will scratch his left ear reaching behind his head with his right hand. he has no concept of how position himself, or approach something, to make it easier to accomplish task. I guess it's a gift that some have, and some don't.
oh, and by the way. you can place wide rubber band over the prongs, to keep some tension on them when they wrap around the filter. as soon as they do, simple force of friction drives them tighter into the filter, as you turn the wrench.
