Oil Pan Leaking
Hi
My Toyota dealer told me that my camry 2006 model has a oil pan leaking and to reseal it they will charge $395. I always go to the same dealer for my service. What can be the reason for the oil pan to leak.
Thanks |
Is there really a leak? Place cardboard under the engine after driving and look for oil spots.
Doubt if the dealer caused this or if they will fix it for free or reduced charge. Price sounds OK for dealer might find lower quotes at independent shops. |
Don't worry about fixing it. There is no need to fix drips/tiny leaks like this from a reliability, safety perspective.
Common. Most cars have a drip or two leaking from somewhere and yours happens to be the oil pan gasket, also common. My Dodge Grand Caravan ran 150,000 miles like that, seldom added oil between changes, btw. So check your oil once/month for the next several, save $395 and feel good about it. Also many auto parts stores sell 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 foot aluminum sheets just for putting under the motor/tranny to keep the drips from staining garage floors. ~$20; I have two. |
