'preempt' maintenance reqd indicator
Hello.
So, I do an oil change at some 4,000 mile interval. Now, how to keep the "maintenance reqd" light from coming on at 5,000 miles (only 1,000 later) ? Surely this can be done ... |
With odometer showing actual mileage (not trip A or B)
Turn ign key to lock position Turn ign key back to ACC Press and hold trip/reset button Continue to hold down button and turn key to ON Continue to hold button. The mileage will flash zeros until actual mileage reappears Release button |
Hello.
Thanks for the reply. I'm not asking for the reset procedure. I know how to do it. Also, this is a 2011 XLE, which has no key/ACC. My question: Does this 'reset' the (5,000) mileage, when the "maintenance reqd" indicator is not yet on (like at only 4,000) ? I now need the indicator to come on at 9,000 (not 5,000) . |
Not possible. The indicator is preset to a certain miles.

If that's true, this would seem to be a HUGE problem!
Oil changes are regularly done too often, for various reasons. So, we now have an erroneous "maintenance reqd" indicator, which many people cannot reset/fix. Especially elderly, which are included in the Camry demographic, don't even realize that this is not a 'problem' like "service engine" ! BTW, I personally asked a service manager at Green's Toyota in Lexington, Ky this question. He said that the reset procedure resets the 5,000mi at any time, even when the "maintenance reqd" indicator is not on... |
