Rotors/pads (new) - squeak

Greetings folks,

I recently had rotors and brake pads replaced on my 2007 Camry (front pads/rotors and read pads/rotors).

It was done last week and she is braking fine. But sometimes now when I brake there's a low-medium squeaking sound from the brakes. Is this normal / what's the likely cause?

Thanks!

The cause of the noise is vibration when the brake pads contact the rotor during braking.

Brake squeal is something car manufacturers have gone to GREAT lengths to prevent through the use of parts called shims, clips, brake grease (greases the brake parts not the brakes themselves) plus the design of the brake pad. These efforts prevent or dampen these vibrations and the noise.

Did you have the car repaired at Toyota dealer? If not the repair shop may have used a pad which is more prone to vibration, failed to reinstall all the parts as the may no longer fit the pad used, failed to use brake grease, etc. The issues with aftermarket parts and brake noise are endless. Yet not all aftermarket parts are prone to making noise.

If a dealer did the work they should be able to make the noise go away as they use the same parts and repair methods the manufacturer does.

If an aftermarket shop ask if they can do something about the noise, maybe they can, maybe they can't.

The noise will not affect braking, safety, etc. It is an indication that the parts, installation, etc are not at optimum working design, after all the brakes did not squeal before the repairs but do now.
