Rotten egg smell

Hello
My 98 4cyl, 110.000 mile Camry has developed a Rotten Egg smell from the exhaust at highway speeds after running for about 20 min. The car runs fine, no problems just the sulpher smell ever once and awhile. Could it be the winter mix fuel used in the north east this time of year? Looking for suggestions before I call the dealer.
Thanks

I would check your exhaust for a small leak towards the front of the system.

it could be a bad catalytic converter amoung other emissions things, and it could be likely due to the fuel changes. Take a look around the car and see if you see anything. And i assume you're smelling this through the vents.

The “rotten egg smell” that you mentioned is usually caused by fuel mixture in the engine that is too rich. The catalytic converter may be faulty but before you replace it the “too rich” fuel mixture needs to be corrected. As far as the cost...check around in your area at different muffler shops and compare prices.

rotten egg smell is from a over charged battery.

Very common in our 4bangers. Your catalytic converter is going bad- and needs to be replaced. Cost at dealership is a bit over a thousand dollars.. RIDICULOUS. i know. I almost punched the service mgr. when he told me.

DO THIS:
1) When you fill up/gas up- skip CHEVRON & SHELL. They have acidic detergents in their gasoline that helps clean the engine internals. Especially SHELL. ( Do this for about 700miles )

2) Before you decide when to switch gasolines, reset your ECU by unplugging the battery terminals and turning the key to use upwhatever electricity left in the system. Resetting the ECU will reset the learning chip- SO.. . don't havetoo heavy of a foot or you'll be back on square 1.

3) Report Back or lemme know if it works out for you.

This HELPS MINIMIZE the smell andSLOWS DOWNthe damage on your catalytic converter. It should work but no promises. At least that's what I'm doing right now. - soGood Luck.
