So I married a Camry owner
She has a 1995 4 cyl 2200. It won't start, it turns over and attempts it, but then just continues to turn over and not start.
I don't think it is timing belt, I can see the rotor turn when engine turns. i don't think it's a fuel problem, it smells of fuel. I do think it is a spark issue, but cannot find a coil to test. ive seen 2 different types on YouTube, one being an external coil (mounted on strut wall housing), and a cool pack. This has neither. Tis the coil internal, or am I needing to find the igniter mounted on the suspension wall. This is my first time into this engine compartment for anything other than a battery change and replacing the struts. Downloadable FSM would be nice, Suggestions accepted. Thanks |
Coil may be in the distributor housing.
Check for spark. Spark should be able to gap at least 1/2 inch of air. Igniter seldom goes bad. |
I fixed it, then it nroke
Old coil bad new coil made it run like a top I decided to replace the valve cover gasket, plugs, plug wires, cap, and rotor.
now it runs like a turd.. I did change the o ring at the distributor shaft, maybe I got it 180 out.. I had the firing order wrong, 1342, it sounded like a tool had been left in the engine or a piston was hitting the spark plug. Wired it correctly 1432, and it runs like a champ again. thanks toyomoho. |
