Steering wheel locked (again)

New here -please forgive me if this has been discussed before. My moms 98 Camry has an ongoing problem where the steering wheel locks and she cannot start car. Toyota fixed under warrenty twice, and about 6 months ago she paid 400.00 for new ignition lock/installation. It's doing it again! She heard that this was a problem with some Toyota's, so she is always careful to make sure that the wheels are perfectly straight when she turns motor off.
She is 84 years old, and I'm afraid this will continue to happen and she will be stuck somewhere. Toyota not interested in helping. Any suggestions? Thank you!

RE: Steering wheel locked (again)

yes toyota veh's do seem to lock very tight and this can be avoided if the steering wheel is not turned after the car is shut off most people use the steering wheel to help lift themselves out of the car and this can lock it. my ad vise is not to turn the wheel after shuting the veh off and also if it does lock u just have to turn the wheel in the opposite direction then turn the key to unlock, hope this helps.
