stripped head bolts.

I have a 2003 Camry LE with 95,000 miles I recently took it into the shop with coolant leaking out of the back of the engine. I was told the head gasket needed to be replaced but after further inspection the mechanic found that the middle three back head bolts were stripped do to manufacter's defect and now I have to replace the block. I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue and if so did toyota step up and do anything about it.

I had the same thing happen today to my 2002 Camry XLE. Lost coolant and all the head bolts are now stipped. Dealer wants to replace block.

I was wondering how this situation was ever resolved? Any ideas?

RE: stripped head bolts.

This will be done on a case-by-case basis. You will need to fight with the dealership and Toyota Rep., and maybe Toyota customer service. They will try to bargain you downso you will need to get the best resolution you can. I hope you have kept all your maintenence receipts. You may have a small claims case so I would look at your State's consumer protection laws as well as see if your AG's officecan be of help.
