tachometer and transmission

I recently posted an ad about my 94 camry v6. I recently replaced the trans when I purchased the vehicle. It ran good for a few days and then the timing belt pully broke and it was cheaper to replace a whole better used engine. Now it will not read rpm on the tachometer. The car drives but will not shift. This is an automatic trans. Now it will operate normally in park, reverse, neutral. Drive, second, and the low gears all operate as first. It will not shift up. Is this related to the tachometer problem? And how so? Does anyone know how to fix this tachometer problem? I would like to rule that out and then tackle trans problem if that does not remedy it. I've posted already and got no helpful info. If anybody has the answers, please respond. This problem is very frustrating after replacing the trans and engine. Both parts were used, but tested prior to sale.
