thermostat

whats the proper thermostat for the 93 Camry 4 cyl?

I went to get one and the parts store says the manufacturer recommendation is a 180 degree thermostat. Most cars I have ever worked on were factory 192 degrees. My car runs in the middle between C and H on the temp gauge when idling but whne driving it drops down to just above the C. I am wondering if my thermostat is stuck OPEN thus running at the normal temp when idling but when driving its cooling it down too quickly. My heat from the vents is not as warm when driving as it is when idling.

Should I switch to the 192 or do you think my factory thermostat is stuck open?

See other post.

As others have posted this reads like air in the system.

The factory T-stat is 180F.

You can test the T-stat by placing it in pan of water on the stove. Insert a thermometer into the water. The T-stat should start opening around 176-183F and be fully open at 203F. The "life" or valve opening should be 0.394 inch.

Try placing the heater full hot to help get the air out.

wouldn't air in the system cause it to run hot due to lack of coolant circulation? That has always been my experience with air in the system.

Yes.

Try squeezing the upper and lower radiator hoses to get all the air out as you add coolant.
