Timing belt question '90 Camry 2.0
Just bought a 1990 Camry DX wagon with the 2.0.
This little car has quite a few miles on it. My question is this: If the timing belt goes will it bend up the valves or is it a non-interferrence motor? Replacing the belt in a few weeks on general principals but wanted to know how much of a priority it is. Thanks |
its not the much!you can do that if its needed.

Its a non interference engine. If you can hear a rattle from beneath the timing cover when you rev the engine (standing in front of the engine with the hood open)- then the belt is pretty stretched and the tension now loose. You may want to replace the belt if thats the case or run the risk of being stranded.

Don't think it's rattling. But with a Japanese car of this age and mileage (190,000) I'll replace it anyway, since I have no idea how long it's been since it was done.
