Torque converter software / advice needed
2014.5 Camry SE Sport 145k miles. Paid $6500. Perfect interior, everything functions. Sony Apple CarPlay. Rides / drives great except the crappy noisy tires. A few bumper dings. No underbody rust.
I've seen all the torque converter threads and this follows along. Here are my symptoms:
18 - 23 MPH hesitation. None after.
Worse at cold start
Zero issues shifting with paddles
Toyota ran VIN, no "campaigns"
1. Is there any way to find out what software version I have besides going to the dealer?
2. If I have the latest update do I:
a. Drive it and just deal with it. I paid $6500
b. Get fluid / filter changed and checked at Toyota
c. Have my mechanic change fluid / filter for $250
Also, after 1st start of the day my key fob won't work. Works just fine after work and later in the day ?????

Which trans does the car have. There is a number on driver's side door edge sticker.

If the fluid has never been changed it might be a good idea to do so.
Any software updates would be done at a dealer. The dealer would have this info and any dealer performed service.

Thanks for the TSB doc. Toyota swears there were no "campaigns" for my VIN. Assume this is a recall notice.
sticker reads: A/TM:-01A/U760E
MFD Date: 02/14
Any idea on dealer trans fluid change and software update cost ? Not replacing the torque converter at this time. The paddle shifters get me right by this with zero issues

The TSB is not a recall. A dealer will not offer the TSB fix unless the car owner comes in and complains. The complaints fitting the criteria of the TSB. Thought Toyota reimbursed the dealer on a flat rate amount that may not offer much profit.
I don't know if a dealer will upgrade the firmware on a non-TSB basis. You might try to find out what the current software version is.
A Toyota dealer can quote you a price for trans oil change as this should be flat rate or book rate. Say $250-$300.
Have all the trans fluid changed. Don't do a flush but exchange the old fluid for new. Some 2/3rds are in the converter and does not drain out. Don't use chemicals or backwards flush. A dealer or trans shop should have a machine that gently moves the old fluid out while the new fluid replaces it.
Toyota has a color chart where they can compare the trans fluid color to the chart and get a good idea of its condition. The fluid is synthetic but is not lifetime. My opinion is 100K max on any synthetic trans fluid unless it operates at a low fluid temp. Increasing fluid temp kills fluid life. Stop/go driving and pulling a trailer.
