ToyotaCare Cabin Air Filter Question
 

I have two Camry. One is 2013 and the other is 2017.
I have just learned that at 20,000 mile, cabin air filter is being replaced for my 2017 but it was not part of ToyotaCare for 2013. Anyone know of anything of this change? I try to look for this and it is not published information from Toyota.

This ToyotaCare is unclear when it comes to anything other than oil filter change/tire rotation/all fluid fill in a sense that all Toyota recommended maintenance is covered but no mention of Cabin Air Filter. Maintenance for Cabin Air Filter is recommended to replace at 20,000 miles. I've even read on the net that some dealer marked that they replaced Cabin Air Filter at 20,000 ToyotaCare but but have not performed the service.

Has everyone/anyone have their Cabin Air Filter replaced at 20,000 miles. If so, what year is your Camry?

Read the info for ToyotaCare. Typically it covers normal factory scheduled maintenance for a prescribed number of years or miles, (typically 25K or 2 years), whichever comes first. Then read the owner's manual to determine what is the normal factory scheduled maintenance for this mileage and time. If the filter is scheduled then it should be covered.

If you are concerned the dealer may just check off the filter without replacing it, check it yourself. The owners manual should cover changing the filter. If not the internet has instructions and video's on how to do this. Easy job.

I went into my Toyota dealership since it was still under the 2 years 30,000 ( Actually RAV4 Hybrid). They came back and said they did all the checks and my cabin filter was dirty. They showed me it was dirty. I asked how much. They said 50 bucks. I asked them to reinstall.

Like Toyomoho said watched a You Tube on how to. Replaced it in 2 minutes behind the glove box. Got an OEM from an online dealer through ebay for $15.00.
No tax and free shipping. It was a dinked and dented type item. Good condition. Package was dinked only.

Point I was trying to make is that all Toyota vehicles are covered under ToyotaCare and at 20,000 mile/2.5 years visit (the last ToyotaCare visit), the cabin air filter should be replaced as that part is factory recommended replaced part. But the fact is documented very unclear and even the dealership would not perform the job and it gets unnoticed by vehicle owner.
Toyota is claiming that cabin air filter is covered for 2017 Camry but not 2013 in ToyotaCare. Does this make sense? Or is this a fact? Not well documented anywhere.

I am not sure what year your RAV4 is but the filter should have been replaced at 20,000, ToyotaCare service for free of charge. If it is found to be dirty at 30,000, most likely the dealership has not perform the job. Check with your service record if the filter is replaced at your last visit for ToyotaCare.

Toyota is correct.

For the 2017, at 20K miles the Toyota maintenance website states "Replace Cabin Air Filter (If equipped)."

For the 2013, 30K miles is listed.

You are correct. My 2013 maintenance guide suggest to replace the filter at every 30,000 miles whereas 2017 maintenance guide suggest at every 10,000 miles (not 20,000 miles as you mentioned).

This brings another point that, for my 2017 Camry, they should have replaced the filter at 10,000 miles visit and the dealer that service the vehicle did not replace the filter. I checked my record for 10,000 miles visit.

I called the dealer and they admit that the filter was NOT replaced at 10,000 miles for my 2017 Camry. They said bring the car in for replacement.
I told them that the 20,000 mile service is due in a month and asked if I can just have a cabin air filter that was supposed to put in at 10,000 miles. The service manger had no problem with that so I went to the dealership to pick up a filter.

You are correct for the 2013 service info listing 10K.

Who knows what the dealer and Toyota are doing. Not replacing the 2013 filter saves them a few dollars.

Why the change between 2017 and 2013 change interval? It has happened that after a car maker implements free service, it also extends their service intervals. Thus the 2013 10K filter change may now become 30K, to again save a few dollars. Of perhaps the filter is now grossly improved and can go 3 times as long as the old one?

New member question, cabin air filter replacement
 

I just had my 2000 Camry LE 3.0L serviced at the dealership for a P0128 check engine light. It was fixed $250 later with a new thermostat and a gallon of antifreeze. They also told me I needed a new cabin air filter for $40 but I passed on it figuring I could do it myself. Well after watching a couple YouTube videos about removing a screw from the glovebox and letting it swing down I checked my model and there is no screw that I could find. All the YT videos were for later models. Does anyone know where my cabin air filter is located or if indeed it is actually behind the glovebox on my 2000 year model? How do I remove the glovebox to access and replace it? Thanks, Mike
