Trans fluid leak
 

All,
Had my '05 LE about a month now. Last weekend we noticed a small fluid leak, took it to the dealer this morning.
They diagnosed a "porous case" and are ordering a new trans to be installed next week.

Just wondered if anyone had seen or heard of this "porous case" issue. The quick diagnosis and decision to just replace the trans seems to indicate that this was not really a surprise to them.

Have heard of this for Camry but don't know the details. Apparently given the dealers response they must have some info from Toyota about it.

I think that this is the worst case, a crack or porosity in the transmission case can get expensive.In this case, that involves the addition of a transmission-fluid dye followed by a careful inspection with an ultraviolet light.

Well, I dropped it off last Tuesday at 7:30, by 10:30 they had called to tell me the trans was ordered and would be replaced under warranty.
They called yesterday to say it was in and will be installed next Tuesday. Not expensive for me, under warranty with zero deductible.
