Water Pump removal...?

Okay, I am new here and stumbled onto this site. I will say hi and keep it as short as possible.

Issue '99 Camery 2.2 4cyl. water pump...
Understanding that the water pump is run off the timing belt, (not like any I have changed over the years ha ha) I can get to the point of the upper (plastic) belt cover, however it looks to be that I must remove the lower cover as well and a few other details!?!?

-Do I have to take the "lower" crank pulley off to change the water pump in order to get the bottom timing cover off, or can I just move it aside or out of the way and still change the W/pump?

-Since I have to remove the #1 and possibly #2 idler pulleys and the timing belt, am I at risk for screwing up the timing?

Is it possible to take the "timing belt" off (or loosen it) to make room for the new W/Pump without having to turn or move the crank or cam sprokets?...then just put the belt back on and the idler pulleys with out messing with the timing?
Also, why is it so important to put the "same" belt back on in the "exact" same place?

I am a bit held back by this at this point and do not want to proceed if it gets too complicated for my limited garage tool abilities!? LOL

Cheers and any help would be more than appreciated!

Yea, I understand that but do I have to pull the crank pulley to get the job done?

If I end up going that far, I will most likely replace the timing belt (since I am that far into it)
I suppose if I have to do that, I will just line up the sporkets with the TDC markings and take the entire front cover w/ lower crank pulley off the motor.
I just did not want to have to go to all that trouble if I didn't have to!?

Cheers and thanks for the reply!
