Default 1st Post 1987 Camry door lock issue

My daughter has a 1987 Camry with 70k on the ticker. Car is in amazing shape. Classic little old lady story. Anyhoo, the passenger rear door will not unlock, cannot pull the lock **** up. It's a catch 22 because I can't get the door unlocked to open it so I can remove the door panel to check the lock. All other doors work ok. Any ideas?

I guess power. There aren't any lock/unlock buttons but, per my daughter, unlocking the passenger front would unlock the passenger rear and driver rear. Unlocking the driver would only unlock the driver. Now unlocking a door only unlocks that door, and the passenger rear door **** will not pull up and the door cannot be opened inside or out.

Check with a Toyota dealer to find out if the recall in the link below has been applied to the car. They can check based on the VIN number. There should be no time limit on recalls.

Check with a locksmith if the door can be opened with a lock tool.

Inquire to daughter if the car has a child proof lock and if this was turned on. Look on the side of the working door for some type of ****.

You might be able pry back the door panel from the top.

An update, the driver door will only unlocks the drivers door. She said it was always this way, but of she unlocked the passenger door, it would unlock the rear doors. I still have the issue with the passenger rear door, it cannot be unlocked in any manner. Hopefully this summer i can get to it. Also, i was looking at it yesterday, there are two wires going into the rear door from the B pillar, they are wrapped in electrical tape and it appears that the holes were drilled because there is no bushing etc, the wires are chaffed.

passenger rear door
child saftey lock on?
hint
you remove the back seat base from the drivers side rear door and you can undo the door card of the passenger rear door

rear door from the B pillar,
sounds like a real mess
with door cards off , to inspect the doors not working properly.

you may have to run replacement wire or two ..even a door loom

Let me say, there are no door unlock switches on any doors. I was looking at a 1988 at the local recyclers, there were switches on the doors. I'm not sure if this is aftermarket or what.

How is each door locked and unlocked?

You suspect someone added electric door locks?

it is the third generation of camrys

would have to research if central locking was standard for your 1987 Camry

base models may not have had it

which badge it on the car STD DX or LE

for locking ...do you have a std key or a fob or a key and fob combined

for central locking no individual door switches are required

only when you add electric windows are switches add to each door
with a master for all windows at the drivers reach

Per my daughter, the drivers door was by itself. It would only unlock itself. If you unlocked the passenger front door, it would unlock the rear doors also. There is no fob, this is all through the keys or by pulling up the lock ****. Now nothing happens and the passenger rear is stuck locked. Windows are manual so I think the wires mentioned above are for the locking.
