Why on the lower hose?

Changed radiator hoses & thermostat and was surprised that the stat is on the lower hose instead of the top. Curious as to why. 2014 LE 4 cyl. Thanks.

The tech specs states coolant flows into the t-stat housing.from the radiator hose, thus the bottom hose would hook up.
