Default is there a diff exhaust manifold for a 89

hello,
do they make a different Exhaust manifold for an 89 4 cyl engine.
i see there is a
catalytic converter right off the bat is there a way to get rid of it or just replace it (its going bad)when upgrading the system for better air flow.
thanks

There could be a difference between cars built to California or Federal emissions standards. The California car may have the converter coming off the manifold plumbing plus a converter under the cars chassis.

Checks sites like Rockauto.com to find converters for both CA and FED emissions cars and determine if there is a difference.

If upgrading keep in mind if the emissions system uses O2 sensors the computer will be looking for signals from them. You can just remove the sensors and expect the engine to preform the same.
