1990 Toyota Camry Starting Problem

2 Attachment(s)
Hey, new member here. Just thought I'd start off saying I love my Camry.

Anyways, I'm 19 years old and just purchased the car a few months ago for $700 Canadian. Car has been running fine and still does run fine for 333xxxkm. Only thing I've ended up having to replace is the alternator. It started overheating and not charging the battery.

Now, whenever I go to drive the car, I get in and turn the ignition and crank the car over for about 3 seconds with no start. What I end up having to do is stop for about 8 seconds and wait, then turn it over again to witch point it will start. Usually for the rest of the day, the car will start normally unless there is about a 5 or more hour gap between starts.

Anyone have an idea of what the problem might be? Sorry if I wasn't detailed enough.

Might clean the IAC (also called ISC) valve. An internet search will generate hits on how to do this.

Also check the cold start injector system. This system injects fuel into the manifold when the engine is cold. It consists of one injector and a coolant temp controlled timing switch.

Also check the ign coil.

you go that for a cheaper price, expect the worst... I bet cleaning the IAC is not enough.

Yeah, well the thing had 320000KM on it when I got it. Got it for so cheap mainly because I was buying it off of a friend who basically just wanted it out of his driveway. It runs completely fine while I'm driving, just rough starting up after its been off for a while. But, since I payed so little, I'm not looking to pay too much for a fix.

I hope it doesn't get much worse since I plan to drive it from Victoria, BC all the way to Halifax, NS. Completely cross continent.

This is not that many miles on a car having ongoing maintenance.

does gas cap leak ?
and then fuel pressure needed to send fuel to engine compartment is lost.
and when you leave car ignition on.
it lets fuel pump build up enough fuel pressure and then it starts ?

when i take my gas cap off. air blows out and tank DE-presurizes
