1998 2.2 Performance

I have a 1998 2.2 Camry. It has been the best car I've ever owned for cost per mile and dependability. It has 225,000 miles, but still drives well. I used it for my long commute (almost 1,000 miles one way).
The car's performance is OK, but I would like to boost it a bit. I don't want to spend a lot as I don't know how much longer it will last.
I have removed the catalytic converter and noticed an improvement. I have heard that these engines have the timing retarded to meet emissions?
Also, the car is governed around 110mph? Is there a chip or programming that can advance the ignition timing; delete the governor, and possibly inject a bit more fuel on demand?
My "check engine" light is on BC I removed the "cat". Is there a resister that can be wired in the fool the computer?
The intakes are a good idea in warm weather, but not likely when it is very cold? I imagine the faster the car goes, the more air is directed into the engine?
Is there a reasonable camshaft that could help on the top end without sacrifice on the torque on the bottom end?
I would like to make 130-140mph.

Do an internet search on 02 sensor bypass or eliminator.

The cylinder head is designed for fuel economy and emissions.

Doubt if replacing the intake with something like a cold air intake will can any meaningful HP. Suggest staying away from these items.

Have found replacement cams offered in the internet.

Not sure on reprogramming ECU. Might do some research at Toyota MR2 websites (used the same engine). The MR2 folks tended to modify things more then Camry owners.

If you want to boost HP look into a turbo. This is a reasonably common upgrade on this engine model.
