1999 Camry key/ ECM issue
Okay, I have a 1999 Camry. I recently lost the key, it had an immoblizer chip in it. My local Toyota dealership said the only fix was to remove the ECM and have it flashed. Rather than paying them to remove it, i removed it, had them send it out and returned with 2 new keys.
I installed the ECM (hard to muck that up, since there are grooves on the plugs). I ran through the instructions for syncing the keys with the ECM. From what I can tell the 1st key connected, the 2nd key did not. Figured whatever I'll just use the one for now. I went to start the car and the battery was dead. Enough voltage to light dash lights and interior lights, but no starty. I swapped a new battery into the car (I didnt connect the negative before the positive, not sure if that causes problems). The head lights came on as well as the interior lights (No the head light switch is not on). Only dash light that comes on now is the airbag light, key doesnt do anything, in any positon inside of the ingnition. I've called Toyota, talked to two different techs who have never heard of my issue, they contacted some master tech friends who have also not heard of my issue. Please lord, help me, I'm about to drag her to the desert and introduce her to the 12 gauge. Also there are no switches, or buttons under the dash. |
Are you thinking the car has an non-Toyota car alarm that may have disabled the ign?
Did you disconnect the battery prior to removing the ECU? For starters, check all fuses and fusible links. There is a fuse box behind the drivers side ash tray on the dash. |
