2004 Camry LE - new owner
 

Just traded in my '04 Pacifica and purchased a '04 Camry LE 2.4 I4 AT sedan with 45k one-owner miles on it for my wifey. It's our first Toyota after multiple American rides and a couple of Acura and Hondas.
I do most all maintenance myself, so trying to learn as much about this ride as I can for future reference. I'm happy to find out that there is no timing-BELT to deal with.
It was tough decision, we were originally looking at '03 and '05 Accord I4 LXs.

Welcome to the forum! I agree with you about the timing chain as opposed to the belt.

Thanx. I also noted last night that the oil filter is in a more logical/accessible location than on the Civic. And is that really a drain plug in the transmission pan? woohoo!

There are some conveniences for the DIY'er on these cars, but not everything. Oil filter is in a sweet place for sure. I did the water pump on my car and that required working in some tight spaces but still, not too bad.

d'oh! You had to bring up water pumps? I am getting ready to replace the third one on my 99 Civic. This time it will be the OEM as the last two (last one was warranty exchanged) from AdvanceAuto (Chinese made) didn't last. And on the Honda the water pump is driven by the timing belt. How many times can you R&I that before something goes horribly wrong?
I just took a closer look at the Camry water pump...I'll change that any day as opposed to the Honda or my ol' Pacifica.

45,000 miles id definatly do a drain and refill of the automatic transmission fluid,perfect mileage to get the old stuff out,you still have the tranny you can drain,i have a 2013 Se,and hate that it has a "Sealed" transmission,buy only GENUINE Toyota ATF,and change oil every 5000,id use synthetic,good luck with your camry,take good care of it,it will last FOREVER!!!!

Hey guys. Sorry to be off topic. I have a 2003 Camry LE. Looking to do a rebuild. Leeks oil pretty bad. Is ther anyone who has done this before, and what all can I do. I'm wanting to do a small cam as well as a cold air intake. Any suggestions. Thanks
