97 camry erratic idle and stalling when hot

My '97 Camry with 260,000 mi on it has a very intermittent problem that I can't figure out. When it is hot sometimes, usually after driving on the highway for a bit, when you get off the highway and stop, the idle speed goes from normal to almost dying and then it finally does eventually die but will restart. Usually, gunning the engine a couple of times to get the RPM's up to 5000 or so will make it stop doing it for a while, but it always comes back. You can feel it doing something wierd on the highway and then you know when you stop, it is going to probably die on you. The only error codes pointed to the Oxygen sensor so I replaced that and still have the problem. Also tried the engine temerature sensor before that due to other error codes with no effect. Any ideas on what to try next? The problem only occurs when the engine is hot and you have been driving it for while.

Thanks!

RE: 97 camry erratic idle and stalling when hot

Okay... are ur tune-ups up to date? if it is, then try to clean out ur injectors, and flush ur coolant- what i had to do with mines is a major tune-up and do not go cheapy cheapy on the parts either because ur car has high mileage already. i also have a 99 toyota camry w/ 285K (yes, das my daily beater..) and since 200K miles.. this is what i've used..

WIX Oil Filter ( avoid the orange ones..* HINT HINT * F*AM! )
Castrol Syntec ( yes its synthetic )
NGK Iridium Spark Plugs
Rapid Velocity Mod Chip ($25 in eBAY_ yeah they work!)
K&N Air Filter in stock box
89Octane at the pumps
Oil change every 5,000-6,000 miles.

but before changing over to synthetic... clean out ur injectors and ur internals.. not really necessary but i did anyways!.. hehe! hope this helps!
