Air control issues

Hey all...new here..my issue is that the heat is only coming out of the dash vents no matter what positon the selector switch is in...no defrost or floor or mix...1999 Camry LE...how hard to fix..?

toyomoho 02-15-2016 03:57 PM

Auto or manual controls?

02champs 02-15-2016 04:20 PM

Manual....no matter which you dial it stays on dash vents...thanks so much for any info anyone can give...this is an awesome site...!!

The knob control activates electric motors that control the vent doors.

Based on airflow, determine if the dash vent door only is stuck open. As when you select another vent, air now flows through that vent but at a lesser rate then normal because the dash vent door is not closing. As opposed to no or very little airflow.

Motors can be replaced (a common issue) but access can vary depending on which motor is bad. You'll need to get some service info to fix the problem, suggest a Haynes manual or trying to find service documentation on the internet.

Well I've struck out finding docs or service bulletins on replacement of the air control servo motor....just trying to save some money here if anyone has any links or advice for me...Thanks in advance..!

You need to determine which vent is the problem, then check out the servo motor.

The vent selection servo is located on the drivers side of center climate assy way up under the dash. Not sure you can see it but if can, observe its operation when you select the climate vents.

Yes, I can see it and it doesn't move when I select the climate vents. It seems stuck on dash vents only.

If the heater blower works, then the climate system is receiving power. The issue then becomes the selector switch or the servo. The switch is simple rotary type. The issue with the servo is removal for testing as the manual states the dash needs to be moved to access.

Thanks, Joey I saw a video of the servo being removed by pulling off panel to the right of accelerator and then removing air duct #3 but the guy admitted to a sore neck and back after he replaced it. Anyone have any idea of the cost of dash removal and servo replacement..?
