Bad thermostat?

I drive a 1992 camry v6 and it has a couple of annoying problems.

Every morning the engine takes really long to warm up and will not warm up until i drive about a half mile.

When i drive and the engine is warming up, it will not accelerate at all unless i floor it and the rpms will be very high on upshifts until the thermo is in the middle of the gauge.

Also, on warm days it seems to eat up more gas and the engine seems to work harder and make more noise.

At night it drives great i seem go get about 17-18 mpg but the heater wont get hot. just kind of warm.

This seems like a thermostat problem but iwanted to see what anyone else thought?

The thermostat could be stuck open. This would explain the slow warmup and cold heater. The trans will not shift into overdrive until the coolant has warmed up.

Change the thermostat, while the coolant system is drained to replace the part flush out the coolant system including the heater core.

A good friend had an identical issue years ago durin a long road trip we were on. His was a 90 Supra turbo. Swapped the thermostat and problem was solved.
Let us know how you resolve the issue. GL!
