camry w/ water damage. Best way to sell?
 

Hi all,
I have a 2002 camry se v6. It has a leak in the rear window that I was unaware of. It wasn't being driven at the time so it sat for a month or so with a few inches of water. It grew a lot of mold. I've cleaned it several times since but I suspect the mold is into the cushions of the leather seats and probably into the carpet padding.
It has 93k miles and is in very good running condition. I really need to sell it but I'm unsure of how to do that. I don't know if I should try to repair it or just sell as is. I don't know how to calculate how much it would be worth.

For prices try New Cars, Used Cars, Car Reviews and Pricing - Edmunds.com. Input your zip code as prices will vary with location plus all other info about your specific car. For condition of car input its condition less the mold issue. Use private party price. This would be the cars valve if the leak and mold issue were repaired.

Also check local prices on Craigslist.

Given Camry's are common selling your car with this mold issue (smell) may be difficult and potential buyers are going to wonder about the extent of the problem. The asking price would need to be reduced according, perhaps the point of where someone considered it a bargain if they were going to do the mold cleanup.

Are you sure the rear window was leaking and if so has the leak been fixed? If the car has a sun roof the water drains can plug up resulting in water in the car. This is more common then a rear window leak.

If you can not clean the car up yourself find a shop that does car detailing and get an opinion from them as to what they can do and costs involved.

Cars that have sat under water from floods have been cleaned up and sold to unsuspecting buyers sometimes as still new cars. The technology exists to clean the car up so the mold is no longer an issue.

The seats come out easy enough for cleaning. A shop can the remove and if necessary replace the carpet.

Have the car checked out and get an estimate of costs. Then subtract this from what the car appears to be worth based on your research. My guess is you will be ahead having the car repaired rather then trying to sell it as is. This always results in a big hit in price as most buyers do not want to deal with mold issues or any other repairs such as this.
